The universities and colleges in Sweden are getting more and more popular because of their prestigious education and generous scholarship programs.
Medium of instruction in Swedish Universities and Colleges?
The medium of instruction used in Swedish Higher educational institutions is both Swedish and English. Non-native speakers have to prove their language proficiency for Swedish via satisfactory scores in Test in Swedish for University Studies. Students getting enrolled in English-taught programs have to prove their language proficiency via IELTS or TOEFL.Some universities have their own methods of checking the applicants’ language proficiency like conducting an interview or some test of their own to check the fluency of the applicant in either Swedish or English.
Is it legal for Students to Work in Sweden?
Fortunately, Sweden is among those few countries that have no restrictions over the students working alongside their studies. EU and non-EU students both can work on a study visa. There is no restriction over how many hours one can work. The students can take up full-time work as well if they can manage their studies well with it.

Sweden can be intimidating when it comes to living there as it is perceived that it is quite an expensive country to be in. This can be both true and false. Your expenses in Sweden can go up and down depending upon your lifestyle, the neighborhood, and the city you choose to live in, type of housing, what type of food you eat, etc. A student on average will need 8,514 SEK to get through a month in Sweden, which is around $900 or €800. Rent in big cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg is higher than in most other cities in Sweden.

List of Sweden Scholarships in 2021:
The Swedish higher education used to be free for students from all nationalities. With a change in the law, it is now only free for EU/EEA nationals. For students from non-EU countries, there are generous scholarships in place which offer part and full tuition fee waivers. These scholarships are either backed by the government or sponsored by the universities.
#1 Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SISGP):
The Swedish institute SI has launched a scholarship program for global professionals that offer scholarships at the master’s level to students from certain countries. These scholarships are available at all the Swedish higher educational institutions. The number of scholarships available is 300 and the grant is eligible for around 650 master’s programs.
The value of the SISGP scholarship is a full tuition fee waiver, a stipend of 10,000 SEK monthly for living expenses, insurance, and a travel grant worth of 15000 SEK for international students. There are no benefits intended for the students’ families residing in Sweden.
#2 Visby Program (by Swedish Government):
Available to only the students from certain countries, the Visby program scholarship is fully funded and is available at the master’s level. The number of scholarships to be granted is 60 and only around 8% of the applicants are granted one.
The scholarship benefits are tuition fee waiver in full, 10,000 SEK for living expenses, an annual travel grant of 5000 SEK, health, and accidental insurance, membership of NFGL, and membership of Alumni Network of SI. The scholarship is available for one and two years long master’s programs. No grants are available for the families. The application fee reimbursement is not offered either.
#3 University of Borås Scholarship:
The University of Boras offers tuition fee waivers to deserving students. The scholarship is not available in monetary terms and the amount goes toward the reduction of the tuition fee. For that reason, this scholarship is only available to students who are ‘required’ to pay the tuition fee and not to those who are already exempted from paying the tuition.
The tuition fee waiver is up to 75%. The candidates should have an impressive educational record that is in line with the university’s prioritized criteria.
#4 Halmstad University Scholarships:
The scholarship by Halmstad University is only meant for students from outside of the EU/EEA (and Switzerland). It will only be awarded to students who have a requirement to pay the tuition fee and are enrolled in a master’s program at Halmstad University.
The value of a Halmstad University scholarship is a tuition fee waiver of up to 50% (there are only two categories, the first one awards a waiver of 25% and the other one gives a waiver of 50%). Coverage for the living costs of the awardees or their family members is not included.
#5 KTH Royal Institute of Technology Scholarship:
The KTH Royal Institute of Technology offers scholarships to those of its international students who are obligated to pay a tuition fee. These scholarships are available at the master’s level and are awarded to only 30 students each year.
The scholarship value only includes a tuition fee waiver and no stipend for living expenses. The scholarship is renewable for the second year upon satisfactory results in the first year. There is no need for a separate application as the candidates selected for the program will automatically be considered for the scholarship.
#6 Lund University Scholarship:
Lund University, every year, gives tuition fee waivers to outstanding students from outside of the EU and EEA (including Switzerland). These waivers are available in four categories, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, and are given based on the past academic record of the candidates (the better the record, the higher the value of scholarship). The scholarship is available to bachelor’s and master’s students. The applicants must be meeting the admission criteria and must be able to pay for their living expenses in Sweden. Without that, they will not be considered for the scholarship.
