Fully funded Scholarship in Japan - University of Tokyo Scholarship 2023-24

The University of Tokyo Scholarship 2023 application period is now open in Japan. The Institution of Tokyo is a public research university and Japan's first Imperial University. Applications for the 2023 Intake are now open, and all foreign students are welcome to apply for the Masters and PhD Degree Programs. The Scholarship is fully funded by Tokyo University. IELTS/TOEFL, as well as knowledge of the Japanese language, are not required.

Scholarship Benefits 

MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship at the University of Tokyo in Japan is a fully funded scholarship for overseas students that will cover the majority of the student's expenditures.

• Exemption from total tuition and entrance fees.
• Monthly Allowance: 144,000 Yen per month (for a Master's Program student).
• 145,000 Yen per month (for a student of a Doctoral Program).
• Students pursuing study or research in certain selected locations of the country may be eligible for an extra monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 Yen.
• Tuition Fee Exemption: Enrollment and Full Tuition Fees will be waived.
• Cost of Travel: Round-trip Airfare Travel tickets to/from Japan to their home country will be given.

Entry requirements

• International students from any country with diplomatic relations with Japan are welcome.
• In general, candidates must have been born on or after April 2, 1988.
• Applicants must apply for the same or a relevant topic of study that they studied at their prior university.
• Candidates must fulfil the English language requirements.
• Has a Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) English proficiency exam score of B2 or above (e.g. TOEFL iBT 72 or above, IELTS 5.5 or above).
