Scholarship Description:
The Canada Graduate Scholarships Masters Program gives financial assistance to outstanding scholars enrolled in a master's or, in certain circumstances, doctorate programme in Canada. This assistance enables these academics to focus entirely on their research in their chosen subjects.
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) together manage the CGS M programme, which supports up to 3,000 students each year across all disciplines (SSHRC). The selection process and post-award administration are handled at the institutional level, with the three agencies providing oversight. Students use the to submit their application to the institution where they wish to hold their award.The goal of the Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's (CGS M) programme is to support students who have demonstrated a high level of success in undergraduate and early graduate studies in order to aid build research capabilities and assist in the training of highly competent professionals.
Degree Level:
- As a requirement for programme completion, an eligible graduate programme must include a significant research component that leads to the completion of a thesis, major research project, dissertation, scholarly publication, performance, recital, and/or exhibit that is merit/expert-reviewed at the institutional level.
- Joint programmes leading to a professional degree (for example, MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/MA, JD/PhD, MBA/PhD, MA/MBA) and clinically focused programmes of study, including clinical psychology, are eligible if they include a strong autonomous research component, as mentioned above.Master's degrees focused solely on classroom work are often ineligible because they lack a strong research component, as indicated above.
- Given the special criteria of some fields, institutions are encouraged to contact the appropriate government for clarification on programme eligibility.

Eligible Nationalities:
Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a Protected Person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) as of the application deadline date
Eligibility Criteria:
- As of the application deadline date, you must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a Protected Person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada). You must also be enrolled in, have applied for, or will apply for full-time admission* to an eligible graduate programme at the master's or doctoral level at a Canadian institution with a CGS M allocation.
- either 0 to 12 months of full-time study (or full-time equivalent) in the programme for which you are applying for funding,** which might be one of the following:
- a master's degree programme
- a doctorate programme that you enter immediately from a bachelor's degree programme without having previously attended any graduate programmes (direct-entry)
- a master's-doctoral programme coupled
- a master's programme that will lead to a qualifying doctoral programme either before or after the award is activated, with no master's degree given (fast-track)
- a master's programme in which the degree requirements will be fulfilled before the scholarship expires, allowing the award to be transferred to an eligible doctorate programme
- or between 4 and 12 months of full-time study (or full-time equivalent) in an eligible master's programme for which the degree requirements will be completed before award activation, allowing it to be activated during the first 12 months of the subsequent doctoral programme for which you are requesting funding (full-time equivalent)
