WBG offers internships, online courses, and scholarships. The World Bank Group also has one of its flagship programmes, the World Bank Group Young Professionals Programme 2023 (WBG YPP). The WBG YPP is a good place to start if you want to work for the World Bank. This is a two-year leadership programme that precedes a five-year contract with the World Bank. The World Bank accepts applications from people all over the world.
Individuals will be trained for two years at the Washington, D.C. office. You will also be relocated to one of the World Bank offices in your home country during the two-year programme. The World Bank recruits Young Professionals from all over the world, with preference given to nationals of WBG member countries and countries of operations. More information is provided below.

Location of Training
The programme begins with Young Professionals (YPs) in Washington, DC, where they receive intensive training.

Program Key Features 

  • Professional Experience: Young Professionals work full-time.
  • WBG YPP provides opportunities for leadership development. Young Professionals will learn leadership skills as well as how to work with clients. Mentoring and discussions with WBG leadership.
  • WBG Policies, Products, and Operations Training: The WBG team will train applicants so that they can perform well and apply their knowledge for years to come.
  • Global Rotations Across WBG: YPs complete at least one rotation at their home institution, with some completing additional rotations at another institution, with the goal of developing and applying skills across the business.

Who can Apply 

Young Professionals from all over the world are invited. The World Bank encourages qualified candidates from a variety of professional, academic, and cultural backgrounds to apply.

Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 1991 to be eligible.
The age requirement is not negotiable.

Application Timeline 

  • Applications are accepted from July 3 to July 31. All World Bank, IFC, and MIGA profiles are welcome.
  • August 15 - September 30: Applications for IFC profiles only reopen.
  • Applicants are screened for minimum eligibility requirements in July and August.
  • September-October: Technical review of qualified applicants to determine shortlisted candidates.
  • Assessments and interviews are scheduled from November to January.
  • February: Offers are extended and decisions are made available to all candidates.
  • The World Bank Group welcomes a new WBG YPP cohort in September 2024.
