The University of Otago offers 180 PhD scholarships each year to both international and domestic students. The tuition fees and stipend will be covered by the University of Otago New Zealand for successful candidates. The institution was founded in 1869 and is a premier research university in New Zealand. As one of New Zealand's oldest universities, it offers young scholars the opportunity to conduct research and convert their ideas into new research projects under the supervision of excellent international academics.

  • This fully financed PhD scholarship is open to both international and domestic New Zealand students.
  • Candidates must hold a master's degree.
  • Applicants must be applying for the first time to the University of Otago's PhD program.
  • International students must have outstanding academic records, which include meeting university grade criteria. 
  • Applicants must have research interest and potential.
  • The department head's recommendation is essential.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English or, if necessary, have an English language score or proficiency letter.
