Named after Major-General Georges P. Vanier, Canada's first francophone Governor General, the Canada Vanier Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program helps Canadian institutions attract top students. The Vanier CGS program supports students with strong leadership skills and high academic achievement in graduate studies across social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and health. Interested and qualified applicants should apply as soon as possible.

Requirements 

To be considered for the Government of Canada Vanier Graduate Scholarship, you must:

1. Be nominated by the institution where you want to study
2. Be a Canadian or international student

Meet the following criteria:

1. Academic excellence
2. Research potential
3. Leadership (both potential and demonstrated ability)

Benefits 

1. The scholarship is worth $50,000 per year for 3 years (non-renewable).
2. Scholarships are equally distributed among three federal granting agencies:
3. Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
4. Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
5. Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Required Documents 

To apply, candidates must submit the following documents:

1. Research Net application form (includes two letters of reference with three sections each)
2. CCV (limited entries; refer to "Completing the Common CV (CCV)" for details)
3. Research Contributions (maximum one page)
4. Personal Leadership Statement (maximum 2 pages for English applications; 2.5 pages for French applications)
5. Special Circumstances (optional, maximum 0.5 page)
6. Two Leadership letters of reference (maximum 2 pages each)
7. Research Proposal (maximum 2 pages for English applications; 2.5 pages for French applications)
8. Project References (maximum 5 pages)
